Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's for becoming a Volunteer

What will I be doing?

All new volunteers are started as a side walker- walking next to the horse and client to promote equestrian independence by following directions given by the instructor.  Helping with activities during lessons, mucking out the arena, sweeping, sanitizing activities.

How many hours a week do I have to volunteer?

On average your time at the barn will be about 1 hour 30 minutes, volunteers are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the lesson to help get the arena set up, lesson are 1 hour long, then you'll be asked to clean up the area after the lesson.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

At least 14 years old.

Do I have to have horse experience?

No horse experience is necessary.  Training will be given to work with the clients and horses.



Can my hours count towards community service/school?

Yes, hours can be counted towards school community service and court ordered community service.

Will I get to ride?

No, the horses only work with clients during weekly lessons

What do I have to wear?

Long pants (jeans or riding type) to protect legs.

Closed toed shoes or boots which offer foot protection in the dirt arena and trails are REQUIRED.

No dangling jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc..)

Please dress conservatively. No spaghetti straps, no plunging neckline, no midriff showing.

In all cases use your best judgment and common sense when dressing for activities at the barn. Keep in mind safety of equestrians, volunteers, and horses.

Where is Wings located?

Wings of Hope is located just South of Fort Worth. We are aproximatley 25 minutes from the I-35/820 mixmaster. We are located 2 miles West of I-35 just off of FM 917. 


Our physical address is 4200 County Road 806 Cleburne, Tx 76031.

To start the application, click on the volunteer tab at the top of the webpage.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the volunteer application.  Don't forget to read over the handbook as well.
